Fictional Client: Herb Brooks

The real Herb Brooks

And we’re back with another fictional client post! And this time, the star of the show is the one and only Herb Brooks. Miracle has been one of my all time favorite movies for the last couple decades. I have probably seen it hundreds of times and I never get sick of it. It’s how I was introduced to the USA hockey team’s journey in the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid. It’s a classic American story and feels very appropriate the day after the 4th of July!

Herb Brooks’s office felt like the obvious choice when deciding what to design: a space where he could hunker down, watch game film and strategize. I wanted it to feel masculine and a bit moody, much like Herb himself I would imagine. The office has a midcentury-modern vibe, seeing as Herb’s formative years were during the heyday of the midcentury style. But he has modern-day amenities, because this is fictional after all. I took inspiration from Herb’s clothing: lots of blue, tan and plaid. Plus, he has plenty of seating for watching game film and taking notes.

Perhaps my favorite image on the internet: Kurt Russell and Noah Emmerich in Miracle
