Round Up! Linear Chandeliers

My mom called me the other day asking for me to be on the lookout for a chandelier for her dining room. Her only instructions? “Something cool.’’ She really loves the chandelier that I chose for our living room (pictured above, which obviously isn’t linear). But our dining table is much smaller and I opted for a circular chandelier shape, rather than linear. So while I was scouting for a “very cool” linear chandelier I figured I’d do a little roundup for you! They’re all super different in style, but that’s the fun! The history of your home, your budget, size of the room and table, and your own personal style will determine which is the right fit for everyone. Are there any that really speak to you?

A bit about linear chandeliers

Linear chandeliers and pendants work best over rectangular tables or islands. I would say if your table or island is longer than 6’, a linear pendant or chandelier is almost necessary. You could always do one on a shorter table, but when the table is particularly long you want the shape of the light fixture above to mirror it. You run the risk of your light fixture and table feeling disconnected or mismatched otherwise.

In terms of height, most hanging light fixtures have adjustable heights. The general rule of thumb is that you want the bottom of your light fixture to be about 36 inches above your table. You want it to be low enough that it feels connected to your table, but not so low that it blocks the line of sight when you’re seated. Make sense?

My Picks

1 // Capiz Rectangular Chandelier - We have a capiz chandelier in our dining room, except I chose a traditional chandelier shape. ($499)

2 // 16-Light Sputnik Chandelier - I am dying for someone to use this one! It’s a bit daring, but would be so cool for the right person/room! ($729)

3 // Halle Linear Chandelier - It’s simple but the brass edge on the drum is just the finishing touch it needs. ($2,355)

4 // 8-Light Chandelier with Faceted Glass - I’ve never seen anything like this one before! The glass discs are a nice juxtaposition with the rectangular shape of the chandelier. ($1,259)

5 // Drum Chandelier in Black and Brass - This might be my favorite on the list! I love that it combines black and brass. It’s very classic, but with a bit of an update. ($628)

6 // Berkshire Linear Pendant - Definitely the most traditional on this list, but it’s a bit leggier which gives it something special. ($689)

7 // Trapezoid Chandelier - This is kindaaaa similar to #3, but a different shape. Just depends on the rest of your decor and dining table! ($446)

8 // Reese Linear Chandelier - I love a chandelier with shades and this one is perfect for a more narrow table beneath. ($499)

9 // Mandeville Linear Chandelier - For sure the most whimsical on the list. But it would make such a statement no matter where you put it! ($1,609)
